Flags for Heroes

Flags for Heroes 2024 - November 1-11, 2024

For the 10th straight year, a beautiful vista of red, white and blue will appear on Utica’s Memorial Parkway November 1st through the 12th as The Good News Center hosts its annual Flags for Heroes Healing Field® display of 1,000 United States Flags. The posted Stars and Stripes honor those who have earned our thanks and recognition. Each flag represents the story of an honored hero understood and appreciated by the sponsor, family and friends. This stirring display of flags will bring the community together in a patriotic tribute to honor our heroes.

Certainly, meaningful in the past years, this display takes on increased significance this year as we celebrate our 10th Anniversary of our Flags for Heroes Healing Field®. Flags can be sponsored for only $40 in Memory or Honor of active-duty military, fallen servicemen and women, first responders, veterans, hometown heroes, and all other heroes in our lives. The days leading up to and surrounding Veterans Day are the perfect time to remember and honor the men and women who have by their dedication become heroes in our lives.

Proceeds will benefit Sitrin’s Military Program. The Military Program has both traditional and alternative treatment options. Sitrin’s Military Program is designed to treat veterans and service members experiencing physical, emotional, and cognitive issues. The program is different from conventional veteran care, personalizing treatment options and social activities based on each individual’s needs and interests. For more information on Sitrin's Military Program please visit https://www.sitrin.com/make-an-impact/our-programs/sitrin-military-program/.

The Utica Healing Field® display is a gift to the community made possible through donations, sponsorships and the efforts of many dedicated volunteers. You can show your support and gratitude by sponsoring a flag or making a donation below or calling The Good News Center 315-735-6210 during business hours of 8:30 am-4:30 pm.

All are welcome to join us for our Recognition Ceremony Saturday, November 9th at 3pm in the Parkway Center. Our guest speaker this year will be Colonel Jon Sunray, US Air Force, Retired. Colonel Sunray served on active duty from May of 1978 until September of 2003. Colonel Sunray entered the Air Force after his commissioning from the Air Force ROTC program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Colonel Sunray devoted himself to various mission assignments at various national intelligence agencies, where he developed equipment and operational procedures to collect, process, and analyze information about foreign military capabilities. He also participated in a variety of special operations around the world that helped address national security threats.

Colonel Sunray comes from a military family.  His grandfather served in the Army during WWI; his father was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served in the Army Air Forces throughout WWII; and his son is a Marine combat veteran who served in Iraq. Colonel Sunray lives in Falls Church, Virginia with his wife, Jennifer, a journalist.

We will have a blessing of the Healing Field® after the ceremony along with a 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps.

Please visit and support Utica’s Healing Field®. Bring your family and friends to experience this awe-inspiring display.
